Yuru ZHANG (M’95-SM’08) received her Ph.D. degree in mechanical engineering from Beihang University, Beijing, China in 1987. Currently she is leading the Division of Human-Machine Interaction at the State Key Laboratory of Virtual Reality Technology and Systems, Beihang University. Her technical interests include haptic human-machine interface, medical robotic systems, robotic dexterous manipulation, and virtual prototyping. She is a senior member of IEEE, and a member of ASME.

Seungmoon CHOI (M’04-SM’16) received the B.S. and M.S. degrees in control and instrumentation engineering from Seoul National University, Seoul, Republic of Korea in 1995 and 1997, respectively. He earned the Ph.D degree in electrical and computer engineering from Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN, USA in 2003.
From 2004 to 2005, he was a post-doctoral research associate working in both the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and the Envision Center for Data Perceptualization at Purdue University. Since 2005, he has been a faculty member at POSTECH, Pohang, Gyeongbuk, Republic of Korea, where he is now a professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering with a joint appointment from the Department of Creative IT Engineering. He was a visiting associate professor of the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Applied Mechanics at the University of Pennsylvania from 2011 to 2012. He has published over 150 research papers about haptics and its applications. His research interests lie on haptic rendering and perception, both in kinesthetic and tactile aspects.
He is an associate editor of IEEE Robotics and Automation Letters, Presence: Teleoperators and Virtual Environments, and Virtual Reality. He was also an associate editor of IEEE Transactions on Haptics, where he was cited for Meritorious Service Award in 2014 as an associate editor and in 2008 as a reviewer.
Prof. Choi received a 2011 Early Career Award from IEEE Technical Committee on Haptics, as well as many best paper and demonstration awards from major international conferences about haptics. He volunteered for various service roles in the haptics and relevant research communities. Major ones include: the co-chair of the IEEE Technical Committee on Haptics in 2009-2010, the general co-chair of IEEE Haptics Symposium in 2014 and 2016, and the program chair of IEEE World Haptics 2015.
